SK Events launched the 2011 Run Liverpool Marathon to a gathered audience of press and dignitaries at the Liver Building in Liverpool.
Race director Alan Rothwell described the route for the 26 mile gruelling race which will take in many of Liverpool's iconic landmarks.
The rejuvenated marathon, which takes place on October 9 – John Lennon’s birthday – will take in New Brighton, Liverpool docks and a run through the Queensway Tunnel, before winding through Princes Park and Sefton Park and finishing at the Pier Head.
There will be 3,000 charity runners, 6,000 national and international runners and 3,000 numbered bibs reserved solely for Merseysiders.
Organiser RunLiverpool, which also holds the successful half marathon, 10k and Santa Dash events, expects the marathon to be watched by 30,00 spectators and bring £3m into the city and Merseyside region’s economy.
